Killer Buds

Interfiber Skunk

Ketuh (Austria)

At the end of the day, I just like the name. Killer Buds could refer to very good weed, or it could refer to very paranoid weed, or it could be an as-yet-unwritten stoner B-Movie screenplay, about a terrifying mix of the former two. So when I failed heroically to blag a promo of Ketuh records, I went and bought this from Chaos Unlimited. Rare for me, especially given skintness, but considering the strength of the compilation tracks I thought it was a pretty safe bet. How fucking wrong I was, and how fucking misleading comp tracks like Fungus In My Banza have been. For this album, kids, is the most blatant GMS rehash I think I have ever heard. The tunes all follow the same formula, have identical basslines, identical FX and most use very rudimentary techniques like 1996-trance-pattern-speed-doubling-hits, and archaic escalating noises. At best, it sounds like GMS’ Growly Family; at most times it sounds like something from GMS around No Rules; and at worst, it sounds like the bastard son of 1200 mics and Eskimo. True enough, one track from here dropped into a set could do the business. But are you really going to buy a whole album just to play one track in a set? One dearly hopes not. There is barely a redeeming feature on this album, and even at Chaos’ decent and fair prices I feel ripped off. One of the biggest disappointments of the year so far. Stick to Ketuh’s other compilations, or if you’re a fan of the nighttime music then sniff out Trishula. Or, buy this second hand off me on ebay.
