Various - Dragon Tales - Tatsu (Germany) The third in Tatsu’s Dragon Tales series picks up where the previous albums left off, showcasing another slice of their smooth, futuristic techno-blended trance hybrid. Ohrsten Norris’ Drunken Drums opens things up with class, with hypnotic samples, sounds shifting all over the place, and a solid and danceable balance all the way through. Knörz from mel.ter is a robotic number that uses intelligent sounds and well-placed percussion to make a likeable bit of minimal techno. Necmi’s Klanggewebe is glorious, it’s amazingly quirky and sounds quite unlike anything else – it’s a real standout, a high quality number that will put a smile on anybody’s face. All in all, not a bad album, but that techno influence is unmistakeable, and some die-hard trancefloors won’t take too kindly to some of the more stripped-down tunes on offer here. It is however a good document of the ever-changing trance scene, and it will be interesting to see how this strand of the music will develop in the future. (6/10)
