Anglo-franco-progresso-fullono-tranceo. Yes folks, more about this shift in the scene. Think melodies over attitudey basslines, think a combination of all that you love thrown together like an alcohol-laced ice cream sundae the day after a party. Progressive sounds are interlacing with fullon sensibilities, i screamed out of my window one Sunday morning, and as i said in the subsequent court case this, your honour, is exhibit A. Transient have sporadically missed the mark somewhat in recent years, but this is a triumph – Transient are out of the bargain bin and firmly on display in the window of the Trance Oxfam (aus:opshop; us:thrift store). D-Tek’s Encounter warms things up nicely, Aphid Moon’s Jimney is a delight, and Life Extension’s Ticket To The Moon Rmx is a gorgeously, unashamedly piece of elevating, meaning-offering oldskool. Sirius Isness’ Electrical Impulses is a stormer, with everything in the right place, and moreover, everything at the right time as well. Psypilot’s Over Unity is an acidsquelch, it’s a fluorofart, it’s a bubblingly ballistic bit of bootyshakin’ basspumpin’ booyakasha born to burst ballons at baby brendan’s birthday. Quadra’s Revolution of Sound is, as the name suggests, sound and Triptych’s closing smokey Foggy Dream beings things to a gorgeous and delectable close. Bloomin’ marvellous, welcome back Transient, good on ya L’Elf, and top marks to all involved.
