Dark Soho
Combustion
Alchemy (UK)
Guess I hardly need to introduce these guys... bigger and beefier than the trailerpark guests on a US talkshow, Combustion is all about mashing the shit out of everything, like in the school holidays when you were a kid, before those bastards from the psychological department came along and sectioned you for a couple of years with the ECT and the medicine and the padded walls. Dark Moon In Stonehenge is proper job, heavy metal psy, backbone more solid than a centenarian’s faeces, yet at the same time it’s danceable and funny... maximum respect. The title track Combustion’s broken beat groove begs to be played on the mother of all big-ass rigs, with a guitar that literally shakes the mucus out of your body, and their deeper, tantalising edge exhibited on The-H is a pleasantly fuzzy surprise. Standout for me though is The 14th, possibly the finest tune of its sort ever written, works incredibly well as a tune, with a hard danceable belly and arms wizzing about all over the place. Class.
