DJ Hal
Dallas / Step It Up
Phokal (UK)
Twisted’s new progressive label kicks off to rather a weighty start, with two tunes set to resonate across the world’s clubs this summer. Dallas is a solid-as-hell groove build around one of the fattest basslines this side of 1996, building up the pace nicely and giving fader-happy DJ’s plenty to cut and get all Grandmaster Flash with. Step It Up is the purest, sexiest progressive tech-house you could ever want, with low-set stabs keeping the deep groove nice and cosy. Not the full psychedelic twist by any means, but all you chop n’ change multistyle DJ’s (and there’s a lot of you out there) would be well advised to sniff this out.

SkinHead
Rhythm
Phokal (UK)
Trainspotters will be foaming to hear that Skinhead is the combined alter-ego of The Light’s Joe Williams and Twisted family cat Benji Vaughan, and here we have a cute über-tribal number. The Junk remix on the A side takes a smooth rolling bassline, pokes it along into life with some very neat stabs and hypnotic vovals, centered round a pretty intense and totally loveable breakdown. The original mix on the flip takes a harder kick and is generally more caustic in its delivery, possibly betraying Benji’s filthy trance upbringing, he pondered as the tune escalated into a rather pleasant final stomp that would have the general effect of turning one of those trendy London tech nights squarely on its head.
